For the fifth year running, parts of newport and the surrounding area are being dug up, adversely affecting access to the town. Fed up residents are asking how many more summers it will be necessary to endure the summer wreckage caused by roadworks which quite often have no useful affect on the town.
Five years ago it was the traffic calming over the bridge. The following year, the traffic calming installation was ripped up and replaced with another one because the council got it wrong the first time.
The following year it was a gas main or similar down Green Park Drive, then a year of digging up the High Street and sorting out the old A1 food hall, which admittedly looks fantastic now
This year though the closing of the Willen Road bridge has led to traffic chaos in the whole of that quarter of milton Keynes, with traffic regularly blocked back up to the Olney bypass and beyond, every weekday morning and through Blakelands, Tongwell and Giffard Park in the evening as traffic tries to find a route out.
Newport residents - who have the pleasure of paying more council tax so these additional councillors can be paid, are fed up with having the potential of the town scuppered year and year and are asking "Whats planned for next year".. and the year after, and the years after that
