Our regular trawl around the itnernet produced this sad news from the energetic yet anonymous people behind the Community, which explains it all:

This has been a hard decision for the team to make but we feel now is a good time to stop. We have had a lot of fun in the last few months and the crew at the live nights and behind the scenes have worked very hard to help make The Community a useful addition to the local music scene. Whilst the project is fully sustainable financially it has, at times, been very time-consuming and a number of volunteers involved now feel they would like to pursue other avenues, such as their own respective bands and new live night projects.

The Community itself began, in part, as an experimental project to see if it was possible for people with little or no prior experience to run a successful, self-sustaining band night. The response we received was highly encouraging and both bands and audience alike regularly gave us positive feedback and came back for more.

We feel we have proven that it is entirely possible for anyone to do likewise and that any band in the area is capable of putting on their own shows. All it takes is a little work and organisation, which is a far more positive use of energy than complaining about a lack of venues. We hope that everyone has enjoyed the last few months of music and that we'll see some more cheap, 'no attitude' gig nights popping up. In fact, if every band that has graced The Community stage was to put on just ONE gig a year, that would be more than a gig a week to attend!
